beachIt’s almost Memorial Day! The unofficial start of summer means an extra day off work, and for many, their first trip to the beach this season. After weathering the storms of spring and the winds of winter, families and friends can take to the shore — free to enjoy the sand and the sun in whatever manner they please.

For those braving the traffic this Friday to get a taste of the beach, I’ve collected some of my favorite beach essentials below to help you as you pack your bags. Enjoy!

KanJam

KanJam is by far my favorite beach game. There are others that are great as well, volleyball and Spikeball jump to mind as being great in the sand, but for me personally, KanJam is the pinnacle of beach entertainment. It’s always a good idea to have a Frisbee at the beach, and KanJam is the perfect way to add a bit of casual competition to your time.

KanJam Ultimate Disc Game, $29.99, available at Amazon.

Sunscreen

This should be a no-brainer, but it’s also always the item I almost forget to pack in my bag before heading to the beach, so I’m including it here just in case. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can handle the sun with proper protection.

Banana Boat SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray, $13.29, available at Amazon.

A big beach towel

Beach towels should be large, cozy, and have a design worthy of showing off to the world. This one from Sunnylife checks all three boxes.

Sunnylife Luxe Reversible Beach Towel, $55, available at Nordstrom.
